A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

Re-read completed and bloody hell did I love that the second time just as much as the first.
- Feyre isn't as annoying at all in this one
- RhYSAND
- just literally everything to do with the Court of Dreams, the family and the love and Velaris.
- they're mates and I still love it so much, they compliment each other so brilliantly.

'The future I saw for myself, bright as the sunrise over the Sidra'

This book was phenomenal (and this review will be very full of spoilers, so very sorry but if you've read A Court of Thorns and Roses, read this right now please!!) Im also sorry about how long this will be, I just have so many emotions!!!!

‘Don’t let the hard days win’

I was hesitant going into this novel, knowing that Rhysand was going to be a new love interest and that he'd be taking Feyre away from Tamlin and Lucian for a week every month. But then, the novel started, and I didn't completely hate it and I was surprised.

'Love can be a poison'
'He locked you up because he knew- the bastard knew what a treasure you are. That you are worth more than land or gold or jewels. He knew, and wanted to keep you all to himself'

I loved how what Amarantha did to both Feyre and Tamlin was shown to actually have an effect on these characters. They were tortured, Feyre was killed and although it was extremely hard to read how much Feyre was suffering, I appreciated how realistic her and Tamlin's relationship was. When Tamlin started to become much too controlling, Feyre's reaction was warranted and her fear of both marrying Tamlin and being locked inside the Spring Court really showed how little attention Tamlin gave her.

'When you spend so long trapped in darkness, Lucien, you find that the darkness begins to stare back'

Even just from the first time Feyre stayed at the Night Court, you can see the difference of her character when she’s with Rhys and when she was with Tamlin. With Tamlin, she was unwillingly subservient and unhappy, and not getting any healthier. He never asked how she was coping or tried to understand the depth of darkness and pain she was feeling. I hated him from the moment I read that he never woke up to check on her as she was sick night after night. On the other hand, Rhys taught her to read, made her stronger and never left her in the dark.

'Rhys would never have not seen what was happening to me'
'There are different kinds of darkness... It is not wholly bad or good'

When Mor came to save Feyre, that's when I really saw the character change. Rhysand cared for her. Watching Feyre become healthy and happy again was a pleasure to read, almost as much of a pleasure it was to watch he relationship with Rhysand grow. He cared for her, noticed when things were wrong and was basically the opposite of Tamlin. Rhys understood what Feyre was going through and helped her get through it, just as much as she helped him.

'It'd just been a relief to think that for a moment, he might have been as lonely as me'

Reading their relationship form and develop from friendship to potentially something more, I became extremely invested. Rhys helped Feyre so much to become the High Fae she was, and to even have the desire to paint. His positive effect on her, and her on him made the announcement that they were mates so special. They loved each other, and my heart couldn't handle it. I wasn't prepared to love Rhys so much or to get such a deep view into his life as Amarantha's Whore, and his past before that.

'The smile the world would likely never see, the smile he'd given up for the sake of his people, his lands'
'He took a look at my face and burst out laughing again. Real laughter, open and delighted and lovely'

And of course, it wasn't on Rhys that made me love this novel more than the first one but his whole inner circle. I became extremely, emotionally invested in every single one of them, and when they called each other family, I couldn't help but smile. I feel like Sarah really delved into the past in this novel for every single one of Rhys' inner circle which is why I love them all so much. They noticed the positive effect Feyre had on Rhys and they welcomed her into their family.

'One hell of a High Lord'

Feyre became herself again, although she still knew the pain and had lived through the suffering, she used what she had gone through to grow as a High Fae, and her sassy, fiery self shone through.

'And I wondered if love was too weak a word for what he felt, what he'd done for me. For what I felt for him.'

Whenever Azriel and Cassian made jokes or acted like brothers just showed how safe they felt around each other and how they didn't have to hide. Cassian especially talked with Feyre at times about Rhys and just how they all cared about each other, including Amren and Mor is one of the main things that set the Night Court apart from the Spring Court. Females were equals and treated with respect.

'Three females with absurdly long hair, flowing hair that all resembled hers; and three winged males, who she somehow managed to make look puffed up on their own self importance. I laughed every time I saw it'

And now, she's the High Lady of the Night Court, after everything she did in ACOMAF to be the strong and talented High Fae that she is, I am extremely excited to read how she fares within the Spring Court, only this time, knowing that her mate and her friends and sisters are out there working with her to bring Julian, The King of Hybern and the Spring Court to their knees.

'Because you were breaking. And I couldn't find another way to save you'
'A shame that you let them think the worst... 'As long as the people who matter most know the truth, I don't care about the rest'

So basically, I'm a mess of emotions and I loved this book so much and Feyre and Rhys have just made me so happy and I can't wait for the next one. Sarah J Maas has done it again and I am so grateful to her for creating such a unique and wonderful world.

'The the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys... "The the stars who listens- and the dreams that are answered"'
