I’ve seen this book categorized as many genres including horror, and while it has some all too horrifying aspects, I would describe it more as a psychological thriller with an awareness attached. I was rather intrigued by the premise of this book. I’m always searching for something a little different; something perhaps minor that sets it apart from the others. I bought this book based on that preconceived notion, and I wasn’t disappointed. Ms. Ward is masterful at weaving a fascinating tale told through alternating POV’s. I most times find while reading alternating POV’s I tend to dislike one view more than the others. In this case I found I was invested in what all the POV’s had to offer as a whole. I especially loved Olivia’s perspective as it captures her true essence. The narrative flows rather quickly and doesn’t waste much time bogged down in overdone description. Perception is key here. What you think is happening, it begs you to think again. I found the ending to be very satisfying with some unexpected reveals steeped in heavy doses of reality. Overall a 4 star read for me. The story is perfect the way it is told, but it didn’t reach down and wrench my guts the way my 5 star reads have. Again, perspective is key.
