Not very good, honestly. Bad writing - pretty cool concept, the sci-fi elements are really cool and it's nice to see those Chinese elements.

Maybe would be a good movie, more so than a book. It takes you on a journey, but because there is so little description and reflection, you are made aware of each step, like: (i) X happens, then (ii) Y happens, then (iii) Z happens.

The protagonist also recounts worldviews of the society and after doing so immediately just decides not to conform to those. It feels very she is the only hero in the entire universe kind of vibe which I think doesn't do what the author is intending to do. One dimensional characters without growth.

Surprising at parts. But even then, not great.

Ending is tired and has been done before by sci-fi staples.
