Reminiscent of Erin Morganstern's Starless Sea, Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a beautiful and heartbreaking love story that spans two different worlds. The host of characters were unlike any I've read in fantasy. The central love story is almost Shakespearian in how it unfolds. It was gripping and compelling to the point where I had to go out and buy the other two books before I'd even finished it.
I did feel like it lagged a tad in the middle (like we get it, Akiva is really REALLY hot) but it was a thoroughly enjoyable and easy read.
