North! or Be Eaten by Andrew Peterson

I really enjoyed this. I believe I like it even better than the first installment.

In this book, the Igiby family is on the run after the children discover life altering secrets about their family. On their journey, they often find themselves in very bleak and dangerous situations. Their overall quest filled with fear, obstacles and tests of character. A lot for a child to handle, but as I noticed in the first book, a reality of the world that we live in.

I appreciated how well Andrew Peterson is able to write a story that is geared towards children, while conveying in a simple yet effective way the truth about abandonment, fear, and perseverance. The characters are heroic yet human, as well as complex yet relatable. There is also wonderful humor that both children and adults will appreciate.

There are a couple scenes of a mild form of torture, and this book deals with heavier themes so I would definitely recommend to older children.
