Orientalism by Edward W. Said
4.0
one of the smartest and most original works i’ve ever read
should be complemented by reading necessary follow-up critiques (and then said’s responses to those critiques)
brilliant and busts the conceptual doors wide open and not…easy….to get through… (reading this book required like 2 NYC to SF plane rides, 4 other dedicated vyvanse days, 30+ hours of focused reading time, 9172 tabs, and 8753291726 google searches)
my new original joke: a man walks into a bar and tries to describe the middle east, but instead all he does is accidentally describe himself (*and* his thoughts become reality simply by virtue of his saying them)
also everyone judged me for reading a book with a kind of offensive word as its title but guys, that word is offensive BECAUSE this book made people start to see cultural critiques in that way
