This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

5.0

When I started this book, I wasn’t sure if it was going to live up to the rave reviews. I read the first page and I was confused. We just jump into the action of the time war without any explanation or set up. We meet Red after a battle has taken place and she finds a letter. After that the story just takes off and it can be a little overwhelming. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it.

This is the great thing about this book. Once you get used to the pace of the story and the way the authors chose to tell it, it sucks you in and doesn’t let up until it’s over. I was intrigued by the relationship between Red and Blue, the two opposing agents fighting against each other in this war. Watching their relationship go from almost a cat and mouse like chase, to admiring each other, to falling in love was mesmerizing. It is one of those books that you may have to reread to digest the ending but it will be worth it. For the first time in a long time, I read a book that made me sad to be done when I was finished. If you have not read this book I encourage you to do so. It truly is amazing and will be unlike anything you have ever read before.
