This book is hard to rate - as with a lot of short story collections, the stories vary in quality. The best were The Box House and the Snow and the novella the book is named for. I read this for the Around the World challenge for Panama and definitely got a sense of the area and culture - and recent history. This is nowhere near as dark as the content warnings make it sound.
