Exquisite by Mackenzie Cartwright, Ella Frank

Did not finish book.

1.0

What the... do I have a bad copy of this or I am I reading something completely different? I slogged my way through the first two chapters and couldn't take it anymore. The writing style is so dry and amateurish. The supposedly humorous repartee lacked any and all semblance of wit. The female protagonist is worse than your prototypical ice queen, like someone dug her out of the lowest level of a frozen over hell. How on earth did this get so many 5 star reviews?! I am utterly baffled.

My gut was telling me not to continue reading after I spotted the first error in the dedication. To =/= too. This mix up occurred numerous times. Also, compliment =/= complement, it's =/= its. This book was in serious need of an editor. I don't consider myself a grammar Nazi, but honestly, the errors were so glaring and distracting that I couldn't let them go. Perhaps if the writing had been a little better I could have feigned ignorance. Maybe.

Going more into detail, I can't imagine a large hospital working this way. It sounded more like the author had some work experience in a small doctor's office and then imagined a hospital worked the same way, but with longer hallways. A receptionist wouldn't go chasing down a doctor, especially if she knew said doctor was sitting in her office. And could be reached by phone. Or pager. Also, is this supposed to be Chicago or an imaginary Chicago? There is no St. Luke's Hospital, at least, not anymore. And who names their restaurant Exquisite? How presumptuous and tacky. A logo consisting of a chef hat and martini glass seems like someone spent a few minutes playing with clip art and called it good.

Gah. Whatever. I'm done. Did not finish, do not recommend to anyone.
