I'm a bookseller and The Night Shift was voted for the October 2024 pick for a book club that I moderate. I like mystery/thrilled, but I likely would not have selected this on my own.

It was very fast paced and I finished a bulk of it in a day. This would be good pick for a vacation book. I didn't guess the outcome until the last third of the story, so it was relatively good at twists and surprises. I didn't really care about any of the characters, which is why I gave it less stars. It's solid with story structure, but lacking an element that made me worry for the characters.  I finished this a few weeks ago and I much of the story did not leave an impression.

I'm wondering how my book club discussion will go. The one thing that I did take away from the story was the open scene takes place on NYE 1999. I thought it was interesting to read a scene from such a specific date. I can remember exactly how I spent that particular NYE and brought me back to my own memories. Luckily, I didn't get murdered at a block buster!
