It's easy to think of the grand Lord of the Rings trilogy and be overwhelmed, and wonder where to start. The movies did not do the book justice and the key thing to remember about The Hobbit is that it is written for children. This is not a hard read, it is child friendly, and it just the thing for a little one's bedtime story.

You don't need to read this book to know the trilogy, but this is an excellent introduction to Middle Earth for anyone 6 and older.
