Last Daughter of Krypton by Mike Johnson, Michael Green

3.0

During the weekend I read Supergirl Volume 1, part of The New 52 series from DC Comics. The approach given to Kara is good, highlighting how alien she feels in our planet and not making the common mistake of having her speak English as soon as she arrives. I like how they have prepared Simon Tycho to be her Lex Luthor, with the money and science approach to match, plus what promisesd to be an interesting set of powers.

However, not all is great. The worldkillers storyline feels out of place and contradictory of the rest of the Kryptonian history we have so far, and the "ultimate weapons of world destruction" just don't live up to their hype. I also didn't like the encounter with Superman, Kara throwing a punch as soon as possible makes no sense (don't they have disagreements in Krypton? Must every "NO" be accompanied by an immediate punch to the face?). And finally her uniform, obviously meant to be a sexy version or Superman's suit, should be much more similar to Superman's, since we are told it is the female version of the kryptonian armor, and as such one would assume should offer the same level of skin coverage to protect the female soldiers who didn't enjoy invulnerability in their home planet.

Overall, it's not a bad story, but it could do better. I'll give the series a chance and follow up with Volume 2.
