The pacing and psychological aspects of the 2nd book make it much easier to read than the first. I enjoyed seeing the development of Alia and what her prowess entails. However the continued self deprecation of Paul, for no reason other than his personal self-loathing, leaves the conclusion unfulfilling. I get that this is a Sci-Fi classic, and did enjoy the book, but there are some aspects that give way to a -now- antiquated culture that was prevalent at the time of the writing. I feel we had a lot of nothing but angst.

Would I read it again, no.
Will I continue the series, yes.

I do not think I will read past Frank Herbert’s original works, however.
