The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man by James Weldon Johnson, Arna Bontemps

  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

i loved the simplicity of the writing and the honesty of the narrator. it really discusses the "race problem" of the time from different perspectives. its both hard and easy to understand the narrator's decision. (read for a class)
