Chasing The Wild by Elliott Rose

3.0

“You’re my miracle. The good that an asshole like me was never meant to know… I told you I couldn’t think of a word to describe what it felt like having you arrive in my life… and all I can think is that you’re my wildflowers after the winter, you’re the first crackle in the fireplace when it heats up, you’re the sun chasing away storm clouds. Baby, you’re my goddamn miracle.”

I was lucky to receive an ARC of Elliott Rose's newest book, Chasing The Wild (book one in the Crimson Ridge Series). It follows the story of Layla and Colton.

I liked the book's premise and thought the story's beginning and ending were well-written. However, there was unnecessary repetitiveness throughout the book, and because of this, I skimmed through quite a bit of the story as it did not hold my attention.

I loved that Layla was training to become a qualified veterinarian. I felt her in this book when learning about her childhood and I cannot comprehend what that must have been like for her to experience at such a young age. I found her to be a relatable FMC, especially to anyone who has been down on their luck and is doing whatever they can to keep their heads above water. I admire her determination to follow her dreams and achieve her degree.

I had a love-hate relationship with Colton and his constant repetitive thinking of referring to Layla as Kaycee's girlfriend. Especially when she had made it clear to him multiple times that she was not his girlfriend, and they were not together and were exes. He did grow on me in the end.

I loved how Colton took Layla to the A-frame cabin at Devil's Peak Ranch, his sweet spot. It is the kind of place that one could only dream of owning or being able to visit.

Kaycee surprised me in the end, and it was nice to see his character grow, considering how he was at the start of this book.

I adored Layla's best friend Sage and wish we could have seen more of her.

I wanted to enjoy this book because it had potential and some good elements, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me.

It was not a bad story, and I know that Layla and Colton's story will find its home with the right readers because I can see why people will like this book.

Thank you so much to Elliott Rose for this ARC
