The Code of Capital: How the Law Creates Wealth and Inequality by Katharina Pistor
4.0
A dense read which will probably require me to read several other books on the subject matter in order to fully appreciate it.
The author does a good job laying out how law is a key component of wealth and establishment of property rights. She goes through how legal actors have traditionally coded their assets into wealth and saw to defend it once it had these legal protections.
The book takes pretty heavy swings at the current global setup and I enjoyed learning about how we have effectively seen the emergence of private non-state law become a de facto standard that is used without the need of publicly accountable governments to interact with despite relying on those governments for the property rights in question.
