Treasure of Khan by Clive Cussler, Dirk Cussler

2.0

For the head of a huge organization like NUMA Dirk Pitt seems to be able to spend a lot of time away from his desk avoiding all that administrative detail needed to keep the place going. And his deputy, Rudi Gunn, is right by his side. As well as Al Giordino.

While conducting a survey in a Russian lake, Dirk and Al rescue a team of geologists from another boat when they are swamped by a rouge wave. Then Dirk's boat is deliberately sunk and the rescued geologists have disappeared. This is the beginning of a rescue mission for the missing geologists that takes Dirk and Al to Mongolia and the headquarters of a mysterious oil company.

Far fetched is the best way to describe this. Convoluted is another. Overly padded. This is way too long and has too many side stories. A third of this book could have been cut and the crux of the story would have remained.
