Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen
3.0
He made a face. “I’ve seen that movie. It wasn’t very good.”
“It was a terrible movie! I’m talking about the book.”
“There’s a book?"
Story of my life when talking to others right up there.
Moving on...
I picked this book because of the title. It sounded intriguing and l just had to see what it was about.
Petula the main character, becomes a pessimist after the death of someone close to her which she blames herself for. She is certain that being a pessimist will protect her and her family but what actually happens is that she is labeled a weirdo and has to go to an art therapy class.
Now, according to me there is nothing pessimistic about Petula. Just an unhealthy sense of paranoia and living with too many cats. However l couldn't help but like her because she loves reading, one of her cats is called Anne of Green Gables!! and she loves crafting which makes up for her annoying paranoia.
l liked this book because it was an easy read there were no twists in the story and no startling revelations at the end. Just a nice predictable read with plenty of things that are relatable.
lt is good to sometimes read a book that does not play around with your emotions and make you want to scream and this is just one of those that won't.
