Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 5 by Hiromu Arakawa

4.0

After all the shocking moments, it's time for the Fullmetal Alchemist-series to give us a slower volume.
Does that mean this volume is not as good as the action-packed ones? No, of course not! This volume succeeds in giving beloved characters a lot of development. Especially for Winry Rockbell, who deserves it.

The first part of the story shows us how obsessed Winry really is when it comes to auto-mail. By visiting a town who is specialised in auto-mail production, our trio stumbles upon a thief who steals something with a lot of meaning for Edward.
This brings us to an event where Winry helps with a childbirth, and a sad revelation of the Elric brothers' past.

The second part of the story finds the brothers in search for their teacher Izumi. I liked the way how they introduced Izumi by showing some parts of how the Elric brothers met her when they were children.
Of course, it wouldn't be Fullmetal Alchemist if this new character didn't have something mysterious about her.

The story ends with a cliffhanger which takes place in the past, so I'm curious how they will handle it in the manga.
