I only looked up this book after I read it because I struggled so hard to get through it. It is billed as a huge departure from the original trilogy, which I didn't know going in. So it bucked my expectations because it is a much more subdued novel without the adventure and enthralling world building I'd come to expect from EarthSea.
This was a character book about 2 people having a mid-life crises. There wasn't much of a plot at all and I felt bored a lot of the time. It just didn't connect with me, nor is it what I expected, nor is it what I wanted. It is what it is.
I'd caution other EarthSea readers that this book is very different and you should temper your expectations.
