I Hear the Sunspot by Yuki Fumino

4.0

From the outside, this is a really sweet and wholesome story, a slow-bloom romance between people who just chanced upon each other but looking deeper in really shows the depths of ablism within people, societal infrastructure and ourselves.
It was so nice to see his strong self-beliefs start to be broken down throughout this first volume and for him to start pushing on his little safety bubble he surrounded himself in. I really appreciated that the author showed how people either ignored him or infantilised him which is very common still in society today.
Although the author herself isn't deaf, and as I'm not hard of hearing I can not comment on that part but I do believe this is a really good depiction of the disability experience as a whole.
I hope to see this series become a stepping stone for other books about disability, especially disabled authors to share their own experiences.
