I thought this was a beautiful book about the realities of domestic violence and breaking cycles of generational trauma.
This book gets a lot of crap for “romanticizing domestic abuse”. I gotta be honest, that’s not what I read. What I read was an incredibly realistic view of what that kind of relationship can look like from the perspective of the abused. The emotions surrounding this person they love with their whole heart who hurts them are extremely complicated and unless you’ve been in that situation you really can’t judge them. At the end of the day every one of those situations is a little different, and it may not always work out how it did for Lily, but because it ended well for her doesn’t mean the book romanticized what happened.
