Solid 3 ⭐️ read. I loved the story and emotion behind Bree, and felt very connected to her as a character. The life and thoughts of Black girls was artfully placed and didn’t seem forceful or preachy. The writing style was very believable. I often cringe when writers attempt to embody young characters, but it was very natural most of the time. The reason it’s not a 5 star is because I was lost setting-wise for a little bit. I didn’t understand the passage of time most of the book, and then I could not differentiate between most of the characters in the Order. I knew Bree, Sel, Nick, and William, but everyone else was basically interchangeable to me. So I wish they were a little more identifiable, but other than that, this was super fun, especially the cultural and historical elements sprinkled throughout, and I’ll definitely be continuing the series!
