The Death Cure by James Dashner

3.0

Thomas is still an idiot. And his default reaction: stand and stare. So annoying. It even got someone killed.

I'm not even going to talk about the other characters.

Thank god the series is over. I will admit, however, that it was hilarious to read this during a pandemic. With what we know now of "airborne viruses," the author could have done some more research. It seems hilarious that we battle a coughing virus better than the book people with a virus that steals your mind and humanity. And all that money, to build walls a mile high, but not better/public testing things.

The plot in this has so many holes and poor explanation:
How long ago was the sun flares?
Why would the governments try to kill off humans, when more than half of the world has died?
Why does everyone in South/central America speak English?
How is Newt the only one with an accent if they all were raised by WICKED. Was he raised by wicked Scottish people?
What genius would you name a company trying to save humanity and instill hope "WICKED?" Try for a better acronym?
What was that ending?
What is the fanaticism the WICKED operatives have that there is no compassion or empathy for their lab rat kids?
Why did they only choose children to do the trials?
What was the point of the telepathy? Did it actually do anything? And why only four people?
Why are WICKED so ready to always kill the only hope humanity has by wiping out the immunes (seems petty to me).
We'll never know what Thomas knew before because he didn't get his memories back. Seems a poor plot point.

This was a rant

The epilogue, allow me to revise that.

"Yes, we unleased a virus (with no cure, may I add) as a way to trim the world population after half the human race died in the flare, and unwittingly brought about the Destruction of Humanity and the Human Race. Yes, we invented a system made specifically to torture and kill kids that are immune to said virus. Yes, we raised and brainwashed immune children, even planning a purge, to make them more fanatical in our- their beliefs. Yes, we are looking for a cure, and will stop at nothing even if it means killing everyone (as we did before, haha). BUT WICKED IS GOOD."

2.5/5
The 0.5 is because I did enjoy it, the same way I enjoy finishing a puzzle I hate because I want to see the ending.
