so… i’m usually pretty cautious with anything demon-related (because no thank you 👀), but i decided to give come closer a shot—and yup, i finished it in a day. it’s one of those stories that creeps up on you, following a woman named amanda as she slowly, and i mean sloooowly, gets possessed. not in the over-the-top horror movie way, but in a “wait… am i possessed or just stressed?” kind of way.
the wild part? the demon isn’t some random evil spirit—it’s the imaginary friend she thought she made up as a kid. turns out, it wasn’t so imaginary after all… which definitely makes you rethink childhood memories (i’m side-eyeing every weird thing i ever imagined now).
gran doesn’t throw demons in your face—there’s no spinning heads or pea soup moments here. it’s more like amanda losing pieces of herself bit by bit, until suddenly, you realize she’s not exactly driving the car anymore. the story is super short and reads fast—perfect if you want a creepy vibe without diving too deep into full-on nightmares.
not gonna lie, it wasn’t mind-blowing or anything, but it was a quick, fun read. think of it like a weird little palate cleanser—something you read just to experience the slow unraveling of someone’s sanity (in a totally non-judgmental way, of course).
oh, and the edition i got has this giant creepy eyeball on the cover that stared into my soul the entire time i was reading. pretty sure it’s judging me for not reading something more cheerful. 👁📚
