The Phryne Fisher Mysteries, Vol. 1 : Cocaine Blues / Flying Too High by Kerry Greenwood

3.0

I love Phryne Fisher. She quotes Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes with equal facility, and talks piffle nearly as well as Lord Peter Wimsey himself. She's the sassy, compassionate lady detective of my dreams. In this second novel in the series, we get better acquainted with Phryne's entourage, and get to see her walk a plane as well as pulling a gorgeous Bulldog Drummond stunt in the grand finale. Part of what makes the book such a delight is the fact that it never, ever takes itself too seriously. Oh, and also: I love the attention to detail in evoking the 1920s setting.
