The Dead Key by D.M. Pulley
5.0
This atmospheric story is set in a bank in two time-frames: firstly, when operational, in 1978 and secondly, twenty years later, when the bank is a spooky abandoned building. There is a young woman in each time-frame, both more curious than it’s in her interest to be. And there are keys: single keys and bunches of keys, keys with letters and keys with numbers and keys with nothing at all.
At times this reminded me of (one of my top favourite books) ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’ in the way that something would be put down in one era and found in another.
It’s all very mysterious. And, to be honest, I hadn’t a clue what was going on half the time- I’m not even sure I understood what was going on at the end! But I loved it anyway.
