Hungry Like the Wolf by Paige Tyler

2.5/5 stars.

I feel meh about this one largely because the couple didn't have much chemistry until after the point when they needed it. I kept waiting for some spark in the beginning that would make me feel that they're supposed to be together, but I didn't get it. The author kept telling us they were intensely attracted to each other, but I wasn't invested in their attraction/relationship because I didn't care about either of them that much and couldn't feel any of their sexual tension. I don't know if that makes sense, but nevertheless, the reason I kept reading was largely because I find books like this addictive and was really enjoying the suspense side of the story.

Regardless, I had a lot of fun with this book, especially at the end, and I think the concept of a SWAT team of werewolves is slightly ridiculous in that perfect way that makes it so awesome. I hope (if I do read the next one) we learn more about the werewolf lore/culture. I also appreciated that Gage wasn't uber-arrogant and controlling. It was kind of strange, because I think the author was trying to make him like the other slightly overbearing love interests that populate the pages of so many paranormal romance novels, but he clearly wasn't. I wish she had settled into his character a bit more instead of trying to force him into a role I don't think he fits into the way she might have originally expected or intended. It might have made me like him a bit more than I did, or at least feel something stronger than "meh."
