This volume is a tough one. PunPun is coming of age, starts his pubescent years with a pretty messed up start. His Uncle’s story has some crazy developments but seemingly comes to a positive. PunPun’s Mother’s storyline is kind of heartbreaking. I call it a tough one but the manner that the story is told continues to be addictively readable so I feel solid about the high rating.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Alcoholism, Body horror, Body shaming, Bullying, Child abuse, Chronic illness, Confinement, Death, Emotional abuse, Gore, Infidelity, Misogyny, Sexism, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Terminal illness, Toxic relationship, Violence, Blood, Medical content, Grief, Medical trauma, Car accident, Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Gaslighting, Abandonment, Alcohol, Sexual harassment, and Classism
The sexual politics in this book is complicated. There’s infidelities and the repercussions of these, there’s an adult and teen sexual encounter, there’s another character that seemingly intends to try to lure a teen into a sexual encounter. There is medical trauma surrounding disease and accidents. One teen attempts to engage in sex with another teen leading to a sexual assault.
Be forewarned.
