My Story by Marilyn Monroe

emotional reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

The book made me incredibly sad because while reading it I always knew the ending. Not the ending of the book specifically but the ending of Marilyn's story, and it was heartbreaking for me to read the way she felt throughout her life from her, not only because of her life being tragic, but also because her own feelings and words drowned and fell behind all the opinions other people had about her. I wanted to buy a physical copy of this book but after some time gave up because it is unpopular and the copy I found was too expensive for me. What I found while looking for this book were so so many other biographies, written by others about her. It is so incredibly stupid that autobiography of hers is much less popular than just words and opinions about her.

Even though the book is nowhere about feminism, in my opinion it is about sexism and misogyny of Hollywood. Marilyn gained the popularity she wanted but then realized she still cannot be seen as an actress and an artist, but merely as a sex symbol, and what hurts me about it is that after her death, in eyes of the public she still is just a sex symbol.
