Hammer and Hoe: Alabama Communists During the Great Depression by Robin D.G. Kelley

A history of the communist activism in Alabama in the early 20th century. Narrow in scope, but rich in detail, a whole political world I wasn't aware even existed. A good analysis of the overlap and the tensions between the more centrist liberals, the labor movement, and the communist party and activists.
