The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows, Mary Ann Shaffer
5.0
I'd read that this book was amazing but was put off by the cheesy title. I'm so glad I gave it a shot- I loved it! I hadn't heard that it took place right after WWII or that it was set in England. It was very enlightening (and heart wrenching) to learn how the War affected the everyday lives of these islanders. This book was witty and charming, yet also serious, and full of interesting and lovable characters. I loved the letter format (I guess that is called epistolary format) - I hadn't thought I would! This book also deals with the wonder and enjoyment that can come from a love of reading.
