The Dog Stars by Peter Heller

4.0

A coworker handed this to me just before I left for a business trip for Japan and told me if I opened it on the plane, I wouldn't be able to put it down and would finish it before arriving. I was in. Now, the plane flight is 11 hours, so there is a lot of reading time in there. But in between sleeping, I read it the whole flight home, foregoing movies for the book. It's intriguing, painful, sweet, twisted...and you have no idea where the hell it is going to go. Something off the beaten path was a welcome book to end the summer with.

[Spoiler alert]
My one complaint is that it really just ends. I kept wondering where it was going...but it truly just ended. I wanted an understanding of how this world they were living in would be sustainable, if at all. And I think the depressing answer is that it is not.
