The Other Boy by Hailey Abbott

2.0

After reading two five-starred books, it would be too good to be true to strike with a third one, eventually “the other boy” failed to amaze me.

The story, which could be a perfect Disney Movie adaptation starring Miley Cyrus or Emma Roberts (the book reminded me a lot of her movie WILD CHILD) is about Maddy, a rich kid from San Francisco who sees herself spending her whole summer in her parents’ vineyard in Napa valley as a punishment for throwing a wild party merely a few hours after their departure. the place was maddy’s hell on earth, hating it at first and acting as a typical little spoiled princess whining and complaining about everything, Maddy will learn to appreciate the life in the vineyard, taking in its beauty and quietness and will even find love in the person of David, a sweet, funny, cute guy with curly blond hairs and brown eyes (not blue as mentioned in the blurb) whom she will spend all her time with, though she has a boyfriend back in the city.

The story was okay, but very slow as I put the book down so many times. the chemistry between David and maddy was very good (it showed in their little fights which made me smile a lot!) and building up through the whole novel to finally explode into something cute that I could picture easily in reality.

However what bothered me the most was the narration.

Though the story is narrated in the third person, the author kept using “Mom” “Dad” after her sentences instead of “her mom” and “her dad”. it was very confusing and it almost prevented me from finishing the book.

It’s a perfect summer beach-read, something fluffy and light to pass time, not what I was looking for.
