Whispers and the Roars by K Webster

4.0

I admit it — I was so curious about the ominous blurb and the author's direction to read this completely blind that I abandoned my reading plans and dove right in!

This story was a unique and poignant adventure. I won't give any details because I definitely agree that this story is best experienced without any knowledge of what will happen. But I will say that it's definitely dark at times — depicting severe trauma and violence — so make sure you are in the right headspace before picking it up.

“You are terrifying and strange and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love.” Warsan Shires’s words in my messy teenage writing says everything. That quote is my Kady.

The author's note states that the themes of this novel are "unconditional love, understanding and ultimate dedication" and this could not be more true. Yeo's steadfast and absolute love for Kadence is clear through this entire book. Despite the dark cloud hanging over them, their love absolutely warmed my heart.

I'm impressed with [a:K Webster|36526833|K Webster|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]'s ability to unravel a twisted story by showing and not telling. I predicted the twist shortly before it was revealed, but it didn't take away from the story at all because it was so expertly done. I had to stop and think about the earlier chapters and appreciate Webster's cleverness. This is my second read from her and I can't wait to explore her (massive) backlist!

Definitely recommend this to dark romance readers that want something refreshing, unconventional and a little twisty with an intense and tender romance.
