THE DISASTERS was a fun, action-packed sci-fi adventure. There were just a couple of things that let it down for me. Firstly, I would have liked to have had other POVs other than just Nax because I felt, especially with how quickly the plot progressed, that we didn't really get to know the others all that well. Secondly, whilst I do appreciate a good, fast-paced book, this left me kind of breathless it was so quick. I just felt it was all over too fast and wrapped up a little too nicely. There were some good group dynamics, though, I would agree with the sentiment that it's got a bit of a Firefly feel, and some pretty neat space battles too. There was a lot of casual diversity which I enjoyed and appreciated - Nax, our narrator, is a Pakistani-American and also bisexual, Asra is a practicing Muslim and wears a hijab, Rion is black and gay, Case is black and has anxiety, and Zee is trans. Full review to come.
