Machines Like Me by Ian McEwan
4.0
I quite liked this. As a long time fan of McEwan, I find his work increasingly exciting to read and incredibly thought provoking. The way he approaches difficult topics is brilliant - and as someone who is interested in ethics, I really enjoyed this. A personal favourite was the musings on love and sex and how loyalty or infidelity come into play when talking about robotics.
However, despite some of these positives I felt as though parts of the narrative were maybe under developed? Particularly I thought Miranda’s character was underdeveloped, as she was portrayed as a 22 year old woman, but all at once seemed too motherly for her age.
