Arthurian Chronicles: Roman de Brut (Dodo Press) by Wace

4.0

Wace's Roman de Brut is 'a romanticized paraphrase of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia' as the Britannica aptly describes it. It's not as entertaining to read after just finishing Monmouth’s Historia since on the whole is basically the same. But I wanted to read about the incorporation of the Round Table and the first mention of Arthur's sword by its modern name: Excalibur. I loved Wace's vivid descriptions which infuse new life into his translation and show off his skills as a writer.
