High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

The reviews on this are polarized. It seems that you either hate Rob or are enamoured by the deep dive we take into his self-absorbed and frankly selfish brain. I can see why people hate it. He comes off as a selfish, sexist loser who is only happy when he can one-up someone — and if that someone happens to have wronged him, even better. But… I actually really enjoyed it. When an author can take
me that deep into someone's head, no holds barred, it's hard not to like it. I also think that Rob is such an unreliable narrator that perhaps he's not as bad as he makes himself out to be. I have to have faith that a woman like Laura wouldn't dream of going back with him if he really was. There must be more good in there than what he's showing us. I'm wondering how the movie deals with this heavily interior story, so I'll be adding that to my watchlist for sure.
