It’s a classic I’m glad I read, but definitely walked away with a relief to be done.  You can tell with a sense of impending doom that things aren’t going to go the way you want them to from the beginning, and with one minor twist at the end that I didn’t expect, it was about a tragic as one could imagine.  Life is not fair - especially for those of us who slightly differ from “the norm”. And sometimes, even those who love us and care about us the most can’t protect us from the brutal consequences of accidental or simple mistakes.  Steinbecks use of repetition was very interesting - it definitely made the story more emotional.
