I enjoyed this book. I loved the structure, with each chapter switching between residents of The Avenue as they recover from one war and are drawn into another. I wish there were fewer characters with 'E' names (I sometimes had to take a few seconds to remember which one Esme/Edgar/Esther/Elaine/Edith/Eunice/Eugene was) and struggled with some of the phonetically written accents, but overall I liked the characters and their various facets of 1930's Britishness - would have liked a flapper though!
