Conceal, Don't Feel by Jen Calonita

3.0

This is definitely a three stars book. I am loving this series so far, but this one for me was just.. meh. It felt like a retelling of the movie, but with a little twist, which was kinda disappointing. I expected not only more fleshed out characters, but just more in general. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE it. The book was very much a "tell it like it is" sort of book. No descriptions, no details, just.. telling the story, and while that can be nice, those types of books are usually balanced out by character interactions/ character development. If that makes sense. I wish this book had more character development, specifically for Elsa! I was so excited to read this one, because I loved Frozen when it came out, and this seemed like an exciting and new tale. But it wasn't. Scenes from the movie were COMPLETELY copied, and so were lines, to the point where it took me out of the story. The concept is original, but not the execution. Overall, it was an okay book that could've done WAY better. More time with Elsa, and her character, show why she falls for Hans, show her loneliness, etc. I just didn't like how this book did so much TELLING, versus showing. It's marketed as YA, but honestly, sometimes it felt like the book was just treating me like a child? Which I know is weird, but that's how it felt. So yeah, definitely could've been better with the characters and creativity, I don't want to read the Frozen movie again, I want to experience the stories and characters in a new way, sometimes this book does that, but most of the time, it was just a replay of the frozen movie.
