Someone Like You by Sandy Barker

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Someone Like You is a sweet, Hallmarky romance that I completely devoured in basically two sittings. It’s an easy-to-read, friends-to-lovers story with a cast of quirky characters. Although I quite enjoyed it, there were definitely parts that I had issues with, starting with narration.

As someone who’s never read this series before, I really don’t understand the choice to include Poppy’s POV. It was completely unnecessary to the plot and, frankly, seemed like a cop-out for the author, who didn’t want to bother convincing the audience that Gaby really does have feelings for Raff and just told us how obvious it was instead.

On the topic of those feelings, I was really hoping for a fun revelation. However, what we got instead just seemed improbable. As a chronic overthinker, I don't really buy Gaby being so oblivious to her feelings for such a long time. While there were a few hints of her questioning herself, the switch to realizing her feelings seemed too sudden for me. Gabby really went from “Am I jealous?... I MUST BE IN LOVE!” to “I HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW I’M IN LOVE!” in basically a chapter.

All in all, Someone Like You is a quick and charming read, perfect to cozy up with on a cold winter afternoon.
