So Sweet by Rebekah Weatherspoon

3.0

This was a cute, light little read. I liked that it was relatively drama free until towards the end and was mostly a gentle exploration of this new, budding relationship.

I liked Kayla, the main character. I felt a lot of her decisions were sensible and realistic, and I had a lot of empathy for her and her concerns about the relationship. Michael was a sweet love interest - his care for her and ensuring she is comfortable with their arrangement was nice and very well-done. Their relationship was good. It moves quite quickly, but they had good, solid chemistry and I liked that there was very little will-they-won’t-they. Also, they both actually talk to one another when they have a problem. The whole relationship is handled very maturely from start to finish. There are proper discussions about problems that might arise before they happen, and I appreciated that the book didn’t skip over them.

I also liked that the book didn’t dismiss
SpoilerAdler’s actions towards Michael. The fact that she touched his crotch is treated with the same severity as if it had happened to Kayla, and I thought that was good.

I had a couple of issues with it. The first is quite minor, but early on, I didn’t really see why Ruben had to be present for so much of their early negotiations. I got that he was a major part of Michael’s life and would accidentally learn stuff that was going on, but it felt a bit weird that he was there with them when they were talking about terms and conditions etc..

Finally, I found the writing a bit dry and stilted sometimes. There were a lot of short sentences and a lot of writing that fell into the structure of “this happened, then this happened, then this person said this, then we did this”. It just got a bit repetitive, especially as the story went on.

Overall, it was quite a simple and easy to read book, and was fun as well. It was pure escapism.

I would recommend it if you want a cute, simple fluffy story with a sugar baby relationship.
