Dance on My Grave by Aidan Chambers

5.0

‘You know what you should do about death?’ he said.
I shook my head, not thinking about death anyway.
‘Laugh at it.’ He raised his eyebrows asking: What do you think of that?

Since the year started I have not read a book that I truly loved aside the secret history by Donna Tartt, and I'm glad to say this book got me by the neck and made me obsessed. I decided to read it after watching the movie adaptation (Été 85) and completely falling in love with Barry (in the movie called David) and I can say the movie is actually really accurate and loyal to the book.

It breaks my heart to know it's not a popular book but at the same time it's like a secret the readers share, the tragic 80's love between Barry and Hal (which is really advanced for when the book was published) and how the death of one just completely destroyed the life perception of the other who was left behind, completely alone.

Teenage love is something I don't really like in books, most of the times it is way too cliche and it is just "or i marry them or i die", this book perceives and shows how teenage love is more accurately, impulsive and passionate without leaving the childish part behind.

The story shows how does it feels to be alive and confused, which is hard to manage, so its definitely a to-read book for the ones that haven't.
