Death on the Devil's Teeth: The Strange Murder That Shocked Suburban New Jersey by Mark Moran, Jesse Pollack
3.0
I was intrigued by this story for many reasons, two of which were where DePalma's body was discovered and the odd placement of items around the body, leading police to suspect her murder had some sort of occult aspect. However, since the original crime scene photos and case file were "lost" in a flood, we may never know if this is anything more than speculation.
I thought the two authors did a very fine job investigating this crime (and others during that same period). Some of the early chapters of the book were tedious to read. Forty+ years is a very long time and it's hard to remember a 16 year old's personality, especially since most 16 year olds' don't even know themselves well enough yet to have a personality!
There were quite a few people interviewed who were still really freaked out by the murder and refused to go on the record for this book. One of the main investigators also wouldn't speak to the authors either.
So this book doesn't end with resolving the murders; instead, it ends with "we're pretty sure" so-and-so did it, but have no proof, and it's really just a guess.
Worth reading.
