I have so many feelings about this book. I wasn't a huge fan of the main character at first because he was just the plainest person I've ever seen on paper. But somehow, little by little he grew on me. Maybe the fact that he was just Maurice made him feel more real.

During his darkest moments, I felt how he felt. I yearned as he yearned and feared my own desires as he feared his. This is for anyone who's ever wanted someone they couldn't have.

What I loved the most about how he met Alec was  how nonchalantly and unexpectedly it happened. It was just a whim and a look shared and an understanding between two people. And it just happened as it would have in real life. It felt real and raw and beautiful.

My heart melted and sang when Maurice realized he'd give up on the life he knew to be with the love of his life. And that Alec was ready to do the same was just the happy ending everyone needs to have.

I felt this novel deeply and will read it again and again.
