Marmee by Sarah Miller

4.25

I really enjoyed this! Little Women will always have a special place in my heart and hearing the same story from Marmee/Margaret's point of view was fascinating. It even made me love the Jo/Bhaer pairing more (of course, I'm not a Jo/Laurie shipper, but this made both decisions make more sense). Miller pulls heavily from the Alcott history as well, and having recently read a Louisa May Alcott biography it was really fun to see the places she did that. I also liked the way this fleshed out Hannah and even Mrs. Hummel. Margaret is such a strong, independent woman and I appreciated the way that Miller plays with the tension between Margaret loving her life as a wife and mother but also straining against societal restrictions for women (and others) at the time. A really great historical/literary fiction novel.
