The New Road: I-26 and the Footprints of Progress in Appalachia by Rob Amberg

3.0

A fine documentary book that I read in 12-some hours. Real quick interviews, some fine photographs, nice use of greys. Not quite as a revelatory as I expected or I think Amberg suspected, since it's a lot of people saying the same sorts of things. I like when they revealed aspects of Madison County I hadn't thought about, like the early morning walks through bloodroot patches being disrupted by the road, or the benefits of a dirt road to the community when compared to a paved one. So alright! 7/10 or something, maybe 6/10, because those moments were too few and buttressed by things that were eh, y'know?
