Capo: A Dark Mafia Romance by Nicolina Martin

2.5

Read to me by Alexa
🌶️🌶️.5 - for frequency ( or lack there of) and description (or lack there of)

There was romance lacking here and that’s why I gave it a poor rating.

Chloe is taken by Luciano Salvatore just because he wants to. Not because he was instantly in love, or because he felt a spark he couldn’t explain. Not because of a debt or some sort of passed history. She wasn’t sold to him. Nope. He wanted a pleasure slave and she happened to present a perfect opportunity. So he takes her.

This is a dark romance and Luciano genuinely enjoys harming Chloe. That was fine. The severity of the harm and the amount of time that it went on was also fine. What was not fine was that there was very little build up to the HEA.

From Luciano’s side, we know he’s developing deeper feelings that he’s afraid to acknowledge and doesn’t know how to express. So I guess for his part the HEA wasn’t abrupt.

But for Chloe…. She goes from hating/ fearing him to being in love in like the span of 2 pages. It doesn’t make sense. Because Luciano is denying his feelings…. There are very few tender moments or moments that hold deeper meaning than just lust before they decide they’re inlove. So when the shift happens in their relationship it feels rushed and unfathomable that Chloe should feel the same because Luciano has done virtually nothing to inspire those feelings. We don’t even get the heroine seeking comfort from her abuser trope because he doesn’t allow it. She legit asks him to hold her  after she was nearly raped by someone else and he says no. Sooo yea. For me the HEA was lack luster.
